Welcome to our pottery and little farm! Our handspun fibers come from our Vermont farm

Chasworth Pottery and Farm is located in northwestern Vermont, in a small town named Georgia, a mile from the shores of Lake Champlain. My husband and I share this place with our flock of chickens, two sheep, thirteen goats, and two dogs.

Sometimes I am asked about my working life as a potter and a farmer. Both roles actually meld together nicely. I’m not sure to what degree the animals define my pottery, but they do indeed ground me and bring me a lot of pleasure—and I’m sure that sense of calm helps me be a more creative person.

Life with the animals does demand a certain amount of flexibility, and there is definitely a sense of seasonality to my work as I move back and forth between the studio and the barns. I think this is true for most farmers though, and perhaps especially true for those of us who live in cold climates with long winters. Winter brings its own set of challenges as we care for our animals, but it also seems to bring a rush of creative energy.

Lest you think my world is utterly zen, please know that my number one job around here is manure management. My barn boots and I have trodden through many a nanny berry, I’m pretty handy with a mucking fork, and I’ve got a really impressive compost pile!

Our farm and studio are open to visitors periodically throughout the year. Please contact us for more information if you are interested.
